人物簡介
Ruby Swana is an Amis artist born in Taitung, Taiwan. In 1994, before throwing herself into the field of artistic creation, she had worked in Taipei for 12 years. The working experience of window display design in the department store business brings her a solid creative foundation such as the ways of thinking and the physical sensation. It also makes her deeply realize that she gets so close with the natural subject matters on the aesthetic orientation and spirit. In 1995, Ruby played a role – overall visual design – for the exhibition space of the Shan Hai Guan Amis Wood Carving Arts Festival in Hualien. It turns her life dramatically in another direction. After that, she returns to her hometown, eastern Taiwan, and throws herself into a freelancing creation career, remaining the same to date.
The natural subject matter plays a significant role in Ruby’s creative structure. But she’s never stuck in the ivory tower. Her artistic works at each different stage showcase the tries of diverse mediums. What she’s done is to echo with her aesthetic preferences at different periods, express the intention, and reflect the experiment in the world of spirit. Being a female creator, Ruby is aware of her limited physical strength frankly. At the early stage, she focuses on the usage of driftwood medium. The sliced driftwoods are composed to a new appearance via varied, creative layers such as something more or less, something thick or thin. Such an irregular method of forming a finished work is the typical strategy for her creations then. She also uses the same way to create the large installation art, which presents an intensely personal style – vigorous yet light and elegant yet rhythmic.
