Shortly after its establishment in 2004, Taiwanese aboriginal group O-Kai Singers won first place at the Taiwan International Contemporary A Cappella Festival. Since then the group has received a total 23 awards at home and abroad. O-Kai Singers has often been invited to share the stage with top international a cappella groups such as the Swingle Singers, the Real Group, the Idea of North, amongst others, and recorded albums in collaboration with a number of Grammy award winners. The group’s debut album received the Jury Award, Best Group, and Best Indigenous Album at the 24th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards. O-Kai Singers combine indigenous languages and a cappella singing, expressing deep sentiments which pass down the traditional singing style of the aboriginal Taiwanese and inject vitality into the pop music circles. With the group’s achievement, it was invited as ambassador of Pulima Festival in 2014. It performed in Edinburgh Fringe in the same year presenting the beauty of Taiwanese indigenous music to international audiences.
