人物簡介
Kaling Diway, Pangcah people of Makotaay community in Hualien County. In a traditional Pangcah society, bamboo and rattan weaving is men’s basic skill set, which is also the bedrock of his creation. Kaling Diway continues to try using natural materials such as bamboo, rattan and wood for reshaping, deconstructing, restructuring and carving. His works are warm and funny, expressing the beauty of life. Weaving is widely applied by Kaling Diway as interface for creation, carrying the mission of cultural heritage, implying the Pangcah social structure within its interlaced spaces. The warp threads symbolize the bearing which is respecting elders in the community, and the fill threads symbolize the shaping of the horizontal age ranks system, the compact interlacing forms the cultural feature of solidarity and harmony first in Pangcah society, a massive umbrella of protection for the people when faced with impacts of modernization.
