Labay Eyong
First Prize winner of the 2nd and 3rd Pulima Art Award. Labay Eyong is a member of the Truku community. Her physical sensuous intuition goes before rational thinking which frees her from two-dimensional limitations. “I have to feel the materials with my bare hands before building my work. ”Labay Eyong has inherited the traditional weaving culture of the Truku people and incorporated her gratitude in her practice for the inspiration from female elder weavers in her community. Her works engage viewers in issues about identity, bodily actions, women and the environment.
