Born and raised in the Pinuyumayan community of Katatipul in Taitung, Sangpuy showed his talent in music early in life. He has always been drawn to the company of his elders from whom he started to learn the Pinuyumayan language and ancient songs. Sangpuy has not only been involved with reviving Pinuyumayan music, but also its culture and traditions.
Sangpuy had briefly played and made albums with two indigenous music groups, Feijuyuenbao Synectics and Wild Fire Music. His debut album was produced and released by an independent studio named after Sanpuy’s family name Katatepan in 2012. This self-titled album, Sanpuy-dalan, was nominated in 24th Golden Melody Awards for five categories and won Best Indigenous Singer awards. He has been traveling and invited to perform at several cities/festivals in the United States, Australia, China, Malaysia, Japan, Russia, Germany and Norway, etc..
