As Pangcah people of Ciwkangan community in Taitung County, Lafin • Sawmah studied wooden sculpture with famous artists including Siki Sufin, Rahic Talif and Za Num in the early years. In 2009, he returned to Taitung with his wife Heidi Yip and established their workshop Laboratory Gallery. Facing the invasion of commercial behaviors including popular culture and consumer society, the imbalance of the general environment of indigenous culture enhanced his sense of crisis towards his own culture, and his style of creation has developed from functional wares to symbolic and conceptual large-scale installations.
