"Combined" is about the artist who this year takes off the feather he's been wearing in festivals since he was 16 and who is elevated to the status of Malakacaway, the most honored leader in the eight-stage hierachy of the Amis tribe who is in charge of business related to his community. This work records the artist's growth and his community's cultural ethics; it also expresses expectations he has toward himself. THe artist says: "The leaders in indigenous communities like us have to be like a hard rope, connecting across the hierarchy and uniting the community, guiding the operations of the entire community. Under this huge responsibilityI hope that others in my hierarchy and I can modestly learn and bravely go foward to continue the community's hierarchical tradition and connect every stage in the hierarchy as best as we can."
